Safe Practice is the baseline of Standards

A Shiatsu Practitioner at every Level should be able to demonstrate that they:

    1. Know and abide by their Professional Association's Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics.
    2. Keep clear and appropriate records.
    3. Know cautionary techniques, and conditions requiring special consideration.
    4. If appropriate offer lifestyle recommendations.
    5. Follow an appropriate and accurate assessment procedure
    6. Use appropriate and accurate techniques
    7. are capable of working in four (treatment) positions i.e. prone, supine, side and seated.
    8. are able to recognise whether a change in Receivers' Ki
    9. Demonstrate reflective practice

A Junior Practitioner should

    10. Have completed a minimum of 20 recorded treatments/shiatsu practice sessions on volunteer receivers and 8 tutor observed peer group practices (exchanges)

An Intermediate Level Practitioner should

    11. have completed a further 100 recorded treatments/shiatsu practice sessions and 38 tutor observed peer group practices (exchanges)
    12. Have undertaken the study of anatomy, physiology and pathology to NVQ level.
    13. Know 'Alert' or 'Red flag' conditions

An Advanced Level Practitioner should

    14. Have completed a minimum six case-studies each of a minimum 7 treatments (total 42 treatments), 10 tutor observed clinical practices on members of the public (not immediate peer group), and 15 tutor observed peer group practices
    15. Have undertaken an Interpersonal Listening and Communication skills course, minimum of two (2) days (12 hours).
