CHARTER
The Zen Shiatsu Society
* supports students, practitioners, and teachers of Zen
Shiatsu in their practical, personal and spiritual development
* acknowledges the Shiatsu Regulatory Group's definition of Shiatsu as a touch based therapy that applies pressure to areas of the surface of the body for the purpose of correcting imbalances, and maintaining and promoting health (Shiatsu Regulatory Group UK 2007)
* recognises Zen Shiatsu as a
mindful approach to contact-healing based on the organ-meridian networks of Oriental
Medicine in their physical, energetic and spiritual aspects.
Qualification for Membership of the Zen Shiatsu Society is as follows:
Ordinary Members Pre-assessment Students in training at a any school, friends associates and supporters of Zen Shiatsu including practitioners of other therapies: MZSS
Junior Practitioners continuing in further training having been assessed and certified by a ZSS-registered Teacher or a registered member-school to have attained the Basic Level of safety, care and competence in Practical Shiatsu: JZSS
Intermediate Practitioners
continuing in further training having been assessed and certified by two ZSS-registered Teachers or a registered member-school to have attained the Intermediate Level of safety, care and competence in Zen Shiatsu: IZSS
Practitioners
registered members of the Society having satisfactorily completed training, assessment and certification by three ZSS-registered teachers or a registered member-school as fit to practise Shiatsu with safety, care and competence:
Practitioner Member of the Zen Shiatsu Society: PZSS
Teachers registered members of the Society having undergone teacher training, assessment and certification by the Society or a registered member-school:
Teacher Member of the Zen Shiatsu Society: TZSS
Schools assessed by Zen Shiatsu Society as fit to train, assess and certify all levels of practitioner and teachers
* Membership fees and subscriptions are by voluntary
donation
* Constitution and variations are
by consensus
* Administration is by volunteer

Our intention is to spend energy vigorously
promoting Zen Shiatsu while minimising overheads and bureaucracy, to support members in
all aspects of their development and to provide resources for study, practice development
and ongoing professional support while conserving the resources of our planet.
Inspired
by the light of our ancient healing tradition we beam ahead using the shared technology of
innovation. Decisions are by consensus and
communications by email.
The
founding members of the Zen Shiatsu Society agreed by consensus to open its membership and
registers to all students, practitioners and teachers of Zen
Shiatsu with automatic membership for members
of the Zen School of Shiatsu, the London Tao Centre and the Rosewell Shiatsu Centre.
We celebrate daily and gather annually on MayDay or thereabouts in
gratitude for this life and its opportunities to help others. Time and place are notified to members by email
Our
Help Page shows ways
and means to find help on specific matters such as student and practitioner insurance at
very favourable rates, practice-development, study resources, ethics and complaints,
articles, information and contacts for help.
We
ask members who can help, to let us know. We
seek those willing to share their experience and knowledge in areas such as counselling. shiatsu tuition, accountancy, legal matters, publishing,
public relations, promotion, advertising: creative and sales. Our Help Page explains in
detail how this help can be shared, resourced and remunerated.
Our
Society is funded by donations of money, skills, knowledge, time, energy and love. If you
